Free shopping… and more

Today feels like an early Christmas and adds on to the list of why this year is awesome. It all started about two weeks ago when I received a call while running at the gym. For some weird reason I answered it though I didn’t stop running at all throughout the convo because I didn’t want to lose the momentum.

This woman from Nee Soon Central CC asked if I would be interested in an event at Chong Pang CC where we would get to choose clothes, all of which were FREE and BRAND NEW. All I had to do was to turn up with my IC at 8.45am and I could even bring one female aged 16-60 so I gave my mom’s name.

So this morning we went despite being clueless about everything. The only info I really had was ‘pick free clothes’. Registered our names, queued for awhile and woohoo we made it into the first batch of 20.

We were given McChicken Burger each as refreshments and there was even a free polaroid-taking session.

Then we were allowed into this indoors hall where all the clothes were. I was hopping it was not the kind of grab as many as you can in xxx seconds or those you have to play games for because I was so not in the mood for that on a Saturday morning. Luckily it turned out to be much more organised.

Every person could pick one item from the red zone (tops, bottoms, dresses), one item from the orange zone (underwear , stockings), and one item from the yellow zone (shoes, bags, accessories in sets of five). Not bad, quite a lot to choose from!

Spent quite a long time choosing till the staff was telling everyone to hurry up because they were gonna let the next batch in. We got a black dress, a pair of black shorts, a pair of fur boots, a bag and bras between the both of us.

Ahhh definitely my favourite find of the day! And it’s from River Island — a shop I have never bothered entering because the things are so pricey. The price tag on this bag says $106!

Second favourite find! Fur boots which I can share with my mom because we have the same shoe size 😀
The price tag on the soles say $139

So we went to checkout the items and I thought that was all. But no… they gave us a goodie bag containing drinks and a bottle of hand lotion each. Followed by an ang bao too. You’ll never guess how much it contained…

A WHOPPING $100 EACH!!!!

When we finally left the hall, there were free accessories for us to choose and take as many as we like from.
Wtf is this real life of is this fantasy!!!? I still can’t believe how lucky we were.  I was told only about free clothes (they really were brand new) and it turned out to be so much more asdfghjkl

First time hearing of such an event in my neighbourhood. During the phone convo, the woman said I was eligible because I’d applied for some bursary in 2011 (which I got) and it’s an event for lower-income families (can’t stand it when people say I’m rich just by judging from my shopping habits lulz).

My mom and I were saying that we would totally be uneligible if the saw the amount of stuff I have at home and if they knew we were going to Bangkok in a few weeks time 😀 Woohoo can use the extra cash to do more shopping then HAHAHA. Thanks so much whoever contributed to the event!!! In terms of:

1) Free food
2) Free polaroids
3) Free clothes/shoes/bags/accessories
4) Free goodie bag
5) Free cash

Brunch afterwards… what a splendid day! Glad to have spent it with the one person I love unconditionally 🙂
Just realised that I didn’t arrange the food properly before the photo because three meatballs are hidden lol.

With food comes happiness

P/S: Tried photoshopping my face in these pictures but they turned out odd and I’m too lazy to replace them, so don’t mind me and pretend you didn’t notice anything lol.

So much for updating in bits everyday hahaha. No time for that even -_- Can’t believe that it’s already May.. isn’t it insane? 3 more months left into my contract and I’ll have worked here for almost a year. Thinking of extending another year actually… I love this comfort zone.

Went to Lil Papa’s Wieners Beerstro at Tanjong Pagar with four colleagues on Tuesday (30 April). Quite the experience and an ironic day. Was in the car with my editor and we were supposed to follow Kenneth and Suren’s car because we didn’t know the way. But we were only just setting off and a traffic light stopped us. Before we knew it, they had already sped off.

Ended up going around in circles because we couldn’t find the place, made illegal turns etc. Best part was when we stopped in the yellow box and this woman in a car that we had blocked kept shaking her head at us non-stop. Freaking hilarious ok. Motoring Goondus, anyone? Which is why I say it’s ironic.

Even Baoying who came from home reached earlier than us!
Hahaha anw this is what I ordered: Spicy Italian Pork with sambal chilli, seasame seeds and onions 😀

Lil Papa's Wieners

Very interesting because first you pick the type of sausage you want, then you pick the topping. I was stuck between this ‘Singaporean style’ and the Italian style (pasta sauce etc). There’s loads of variety! Can even tick if you want it to be served with potato chips.

Quite nice and the portion is huge though all the guys had two each. Best part is the chilli (more black colour than red O_O) which was damn shiok! But after awhile, I felt that its saltiness clashed with the sausage, which was salty too. Waiting time is long though. I think price was between $10 to $12? Love the fruit beer there too! Peach flavour was the best.

Played a silly game whereby everyone writes a sentence (though you can only see what the person before you wrote) to reveal a story at the end, which I think will remain an epic inside joke for a long, long time 😉

Suren drove me home (so thankful!) and ironic moment two was when a talk about citizen journalism versus privacy came up on the radio. And when you think of citizen journalism, you instantly think of STOMP. Of course you’d think of STOMP and of course the people calling in would mention STOMP. Hahaha.

Friday (3 May) was spent at Hai Di Lao Hot Pot in Clarke Quay! 😀

Super cool because there’s a waiting area where memo paper, drinks and all kinds of snacks are provided to entertain you while you wait for an empty table. You can even get manicures done for free! The gellish kind also have!! Though there’s a queue too (duh).

Hai Di Lao Hot Pot

Mushroom and mala soup base. The mushroom one is damn tasty and doesn’t make me feel thirsty like other steamboats but the mala one tasted really weird… wish there was tom yum hahaha. There’s quite a few bases to choose from too.

Hai Di Lao Hot Pot

Ordering of ingredients (price is counted as per item)  made via an iPad and delivered to you on a trolley. Shitloads of different sauces that you can help yourself to too. Not much pictures of food because I was too lazy and hungry.

Hai Di Lao Hot Pot

For $3 you can order handmade noodles (手工拉面)… which comes with a performance of a man ‘pulling’ it for you. Best thing ever ok? All of us couldn’t stop laughing. This man in white was a real pro, doing stunts like shooting the noodle into our faces. We ordered a second time (video!)  but the other guy just wasn’t as spectacular and kept failing.

Hai Di Lao Hot Pot

Mango pudding that we ordered.
There’s free beancurd that we can help ourselves to and I had like five small bowls of those hehehe

Hai Di Lao Hot Pot

Super delicious shaved strawberry ice!!

Total bill came up to around $294 for 7 of us. I expected it to be like at least $350 because we ordered so much O_O Means $42 per pax which is quite okay especially if you consider the ambience and service, which was top notch. Waitresses kept coming over to change plates for us, refill drinks, give us cloth to wipe our hands with before and after, the list is endless! I’m really impressed.

Then I spent another $25 cabbing home… huhuhu getting so broke T_T and these days I have no time for shopping (not that I actually *need* anything) so I have been burning holes in my pocket from online purchases. And you know how much I love buying in bulk grrr!

Also feel so fucking fat even though I go running at least once a week now. WHY????
But good food is everywhere… and I don’t want to give them up 🙁
